Literature Text

It's a quiet night.
Warm lights bright up the place. You've just finished eating.
It's kinda cold in here.
You stare at the wall for a while when you notice her. She's sitting at a table nearby.
She's pretty young.
She's got a dark red scarf.
And looks pretty tired too.

It seems like she's been sitting there for quite a while now. She's looking at the door. Waiting for someone, I suppose.

You drink some water and notice that her table's empty. Either she hasn't ordered anything yet or she finished eating a while ago.
She's still staring at the door.
I wonder why.

I finish drinking and look at her.

Still staring.
Still waiting.

She still hasn't noticed I've been looking at her for the past 10 minutes.
She hasn't spent a second looking away from that door.

I can see a few waiters looking at her, it seems like I'm not the only one who's noticed there's something going on.

I'm pretty sure she was already there when I came here about a hour ago.
She's been sitting there alone for all this time, staring at a door? What the hell.

After a few minutes, you leave money on the table and decide to go home.

Next morning,

You're still thinking about her.

So you decide to walk to the same bar. It's a cloudy morning.

The bar is about to open. She's waiting by the door.
It seems like that's all she can do.
She's wearing the same scarf as yesterday.
Once it is open, she goes in and sits to the same table as the other night. And starts looking at the door.

You go to the counter and order a coffee.
When the waiter comes to give it to you, you ask him about the girl.

"Oh, I think she's crazy. This has been going on every day for about three months I think.
She just comes in and stares at the door for hours, doing nothing. I tried reaching out to her but she doesn't really say anything, so we just leave her be."

That's so goddamn weird.

I drink some coffee and then I finally decide to go talk to her.

I start walking to her table. She knows I'm coming.

"Hey, how long do you think you're gonna keep waiting for?"

She turns around and smiles.
"I'm done waiting" she says, and she grabs my arm.

My heart stops for a moment.

"Would you two like anything?" the waiter says.
This one was soo hard to write, but I'm glad how it turned out.
Hope you enjoy it! I'd love it if you could leave a comment.

Love the idea behind this- I can see this as a wonderful little short story, if you are so inclined, that is.
